Joe Carey Was Treated For Lung Infection and Cardiac Issues Previously!
Former Fine Gael politician Joe Carey, who represented Clare in the general election for the last 7 years, has decided to step down from his political career and will not run in the upcoming general election.
Carey was on sick leave since March of last year while receiving treatment for cardiac issues, as reported by the Irish Examiner.
In March, the hospital admitted the politician after experiencing breathing problems. Since then, he has been receiving treatment for heart problems.
Joseph’s family had remained tight-lipped about any further information regarding his medical conditions.
However, rumors of Joe’s resignation after the summer of 2024 had been circulating ever since his absence due to sick leave.
Joseph Carey Has Announced To Step Down From His Political Career Due To Health Conditions
Born on 24 June 1975, Joseph Carey has been Teachta Dála of the Irish Clare constituency and a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
However, on 26th August 2024, Fine Gael released a statement from the 49-year-old TD writing:
Stating that his decision was based on medical advice, Deputy Carey informed Clare Fine Gael party members that he had to put himself, his wife and family first and retire from a job that he loved.
The news of Joe’s resignation has created waves online as it is so close to the general elections.
Nevertheless, the politician has expressed his gratitude for working on the council for the last 25 years but has stated that he needs to prioritize his health.
Additionally, Carey has also further explained his health issues, stating that while he loves his job, medical advice has prevented him from working, saying:
In the past year, I suffered a life-altering medical situation that I will be dealing with for the rest of my time on earth. While I would dearly wish to continue, my decision to step away is based on medical advice.
On March 9, 2023, Joe shared a video of him in a hospital gown, thanking the public for their well wishes.

He also further added that he had previously been a smoker but had given up cigarettes, revealing:
It appears to be an infection in my lung which is ironic – as I had given up the cigarettes 26 days ago today!!
Hence, it appears that Deputy Carey has received medical advice to stay out of work and focus on his health.
