Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Shares Emotional Moment with His Son, Gus, at 2024 DNC
Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz’s son Gus Walz is neurodivergent and has ADHD. While these conditions fall under the broader category of neurodivergence, Gus is not specifically diagnosed with autism.
Tim and Gwen Walz’s youngest child, Gus, is 17 years old as of 2024 and a high schooler. He is starting his senior year at St. Paul Central High School this fall.
Gus has opened up about his struggle with ADHD, non-verbal learning disability, and anxiety.
He recently made headlines after his heartfelt gesture to his dad at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Governor Tim Walz’s Son Gus Is No Less Than a Superhero
Tim Walz spoke about the struggles of infertility he and his wife, Gwen, had to go through in his first speech as Kamala Harris’s running mate. He said,
“When my wife and I decided to have children, we spent years going through infertility treatments, and I remember praying every night for a call for good news, the pit in my stomach when the phone rang, and the agony when we heard that the treatments hadn’t worked. So, it wasn’t by chance that when we welcomed our daughter into the world, we named her Hope.”
After their daughter, they finally had Gus. The couple never treated their son’s condition as an obstacle. The Walz family has embraced Gus’s condition and called it his secret power.
The Walz couple revealed,
“Gus is brilliant, hyper-aware of details that many of us pass by, and above all else, he’s an excellent son and brother to his sibling.“
Being a proud parent of a neurodivergent son, Tim Walz has really set a great example among the people. His love and admiration for Gus are encouragements to all the parents.
On Tim’s Instagram, he posts about his children’s small to big achievements. He even posted about Gus getting a driver’s license last year.
Gus’ parents have always made him feel included and welcomed without making him feel he needs special care.

At the 2024 DNC, Tim Walz gave his nomination speech while acknowledging his wife and children. His beautiful speech made Gus become emotional.
Eventually, Gus stood up from his seat and said, “That’s my dad,” which made him feel a sensation overnight.
Despite their Political background, the Walz family’s humbleness, cordial bond, and openness really made them people’s favorites.
